Following Policies

The GC office does not participate in selection or disciplinary decisions. Nonetheless, all chapters are required to adhere to policies and procedures outlined in the GCC Constitution or GCC Handbook. The GCC office retains the authority to communicate with schools to enforce corrective measures in instances where violations of Honor Society policy are identified. This communication may occur regardless of whether a formal complaint has been lodged. Chapters are obliged to implement the specified corrective action by the designated deadline(s) upon contact.

This page will acquaint you with matters that are considered violations of those policies.   You should know that parents, students, and other interested individuals have access to an online complaint form, which allows them to identify areas of concern when violations of policy are suspected, including the following:

Chapter Selection Violations

  • Absence of a designated faculty member serving as the GCC adviser, and/or the current adviser being the principal or an assistant principal.

  • Lack of establishment of a faculty council within the chapter.

  • Presence of an incorrect number of faculty council members, either exceeding or falling short of the required five members.

  • Involvement of the principal on the council and/or participation in the selection process by casting votes.

  • The GCC adviser's engagement as a voting member of the faculty council.

General Chapter Management Policy Violations

  • Absence of bylaws within the chapter. (Note: While chapters are not obligated to furnish bylaws to nonmembers, they should be able to confirm the existence of this governing document.)

  • Refusal to accept a qualified transfer member from another chapter.

  • Failure to conduct service projects

Due Process Policy Violations (Dismissal from membership)

  • Issuing a warning to a member solely based on an individual course grade that has not affected the cumulative GPA.

  • Dismissing or considering the dismissal of a member without providing prior written warning and an opportunity for improvement within a designated period. (Exceptions: No warning is necessary for breaches of school rules or laws.)

  • Improperly dismissing a member without granting them the right to a hearing with the faculty council.

  • Denying a dismissed student the opportunity to appeal the decision to the school principal. (Note: The right to appeal is exclusive to dismissal rulings; appeals are not granted for nonselection cases.)

Chapter has not provided a copy of the dismissal procedures when requested. Questions can be directed to admin@wearegc.org
